LOOKING AT OUR CROSS

           A common symbol

a sign that each one of us can wear
as a habit
a presence
a gift received and offered
as communion
as a reminder

Not too big

We can wear it in a secularised and multi-religious world
Not triumphalist
The upper vertical is longer: "I have offered all to God".

The body in an attitude of gift can recall our motto

At the same time dead and risen
Emphasises a sign of hope

It could be from any of the races in our world

Hollowed into the cross, it can signify kenosis selflessness an aspect of mystery in which our identity is rooted

Wearing the cross around the neck has another meaning than using a pin.

"Put on Christ." Romans 13, 14

It is cast in bronze; this alloy of brass and pewter, simple and resistant

Which has a warm profound appearance
Which has a visible weight
Already slighty patined doesn't change,
Doesn't spot.

The fastener is separate from the cross

This cross is not jewelry

"Scandal for the Jews foolishness for pagans power of God and wisdom of God for those who are called."
1Co 1:23-24
